Business Idea Testing, Ethical Bribery & Why We Hate Marketers

[Note #1: In this post I tell you how to get a free introductory course on how to test your business idea before you spend money creating a business or product. That part’s at the bottom.].

[Note #2: The audio course I talk about in the post is not the same as the Business Idea Litmus Test which you heard about in my last post (although everyone who signed up for my list in the last post will be getting a copy of the audio course I talk about in this article).  More news about the Business Idea Litmus Test in an upcoming post].

Have you ever been convinced to do something but hated the convincer?

I have.

The last time I purchased, I came away feeling PISSED at the guy who sold it to me.

Was it the best deal? Yes.
Was it the car I wanted? Sure.
Was the offer one that any reasonable person would take? Yup.

So why did that guy piss me off?

He pissed me off because I could tell that he was purposefully using high-pressure, covert, and win/lose tactics to “push my buttons.”

I hated the fact that he knew what "my buttons" were and that he was trying to leverage human irrationality to get me to do something.

(Note: The car salesmen was from California NOT Minnesota. A Minnesotan would have been like “oh… dat dere is a pretty darn good car if you ask me. Not bad. Won’t break down on ya’ for at least 120,000 miles. Well, at least not before 100,000. You know… as long as keep ‘er taken care of don’cha know”).

Anyway, all of this brings me to . . .

My Business Idea Testing Announcement List

In the last post, I go off about the importance of testing your market before you spend a dime on product creation, blog creation, or on fancy marketing. I’ve seen too many people spend too much time and money developing products that hardly sell. (Note: This is the same list you may have got on in the last post. If you’re already on the list then you’re set. No need to get on it again. I’ve got you covered and you’ll get the course within an hour from now).

The reason why testing your business ideas is so important is that, in my experience — only 1 in 7 of my business ideas are good ones. And only 1 in 14 of my business ideas are home runs.

Anyway, if you’re even vaguely interested in learning how to do this testing stuff, the I’d love to have you on the list.  (Just enter your email address below – or click here if you’re reading this from an RSS feed or via email).

The reason why I’d love to have you on the list is that the work I’m doing relating to business idea testing won’t be on this website forever (FYF is more about lifestyle design), and when I launch my new & currently top secret blog/website I’d love it if you joined me (note: if you get on the list you’ll get a sneak peak at the new website).

This is the Part Where I Make an Incompetent Attempt at Bribery

Since I don’t want to be like that California “bro” with who sold me the car, I’m just going to make an unskilled attempt to bribe you.

Here goes . . .

My friend Kevin Hutto and I made an hour long “introduction to business idea testing” audio course. And if you get on the business idea testing list, I’ll give it to you. (By the way, if you’re already on the list then you’ll be getting access to the course tonight).

In the Introduction to Business Idea Testing course we discuss:

  • How we test markets and products in 24 hours
  • How to know whether or not you need to test your market
  • How testing ensures that what you want to do and sell in relevant
  • How to think about choosing a niche market and product
  • And easy formula for writing sales letters for testing your market

There. That’s the bribe.  Enter your email below and and you’ll get the course.

NO WORRIES AT ALL IF THIS ISN’T YOUR THING. It won’t appeal to you if you aren’t interested in business idea testing, but that’s ok.

Anyway, if you get on the list, you’ll also get (1) access to beta sites before they’re released, (2) the opportunity to get my shiznit for 50% off, and (3) access to free stuff (like the business idea testing course).

OK, that’s it for now. It’s a sunny day outside and I’m trying to get someone to bribe me into grabbing a beer.

–Clay.

P.S. As I was signing off I JUST received word that my place is being leased. Uh… tomorrow?!?! So if you don’t hear from me in the next few days it’s because I’m freaking moving.

I look forward to the audio course. One thing I can't seem to figure out is that I imagine there is supposed to be something between those two red arrows but nothing shows up for me in Firefox.

That's really ODD. Do you have javascript disabled? If you do, then that's probably what's causing the problem. I'm going to try and fix this ASAP.

March 2, 2009

Whew! I think I fixed the problem.

March 2, 2009

Seems to be fixed now. I use noscript but have javascript enabled for your site.

Clay, I'm really impressed by how you're positioning yourself in the *very* crowded IM “guru” space. You've got a unique approach and I can't wait to see what you have to say about all this.
