I ALMOST Shut Down The Growing Life *Forever* . . .

So yeah, I almost shut down The Growing Life forever.  And this isn’t where the story ends: the plot thickens and reaches a climax when someone offers $12,000 for this blog and I turn them down.

Long story short: instead of selling The Growing Life or shutting it down, I ended up taking a vacation.  I’m on it now.  Look for the full scoop on Tuesday  Wednesday (or just stop by for more of the same ‘ol armchair nonsense).

  • oh the drama!
  • I checked back Tuesday -- nothing. Here it is Wednesday and I'm still in the dark. Why would someone so motivating be having trouble getting motivated? Burnout, perhaps? It did give me an opportunity to read all the comments, though.

Also, can someone explain to me how you can sell a blog? I mean, isn't Clay the main draw of this blog? If they wanted to buy the blog and you with it for $12K, I'd say you're selling yourself WAY too cheap. If they wanted to buy the blog name and archives and intended to keep it going with their own posts, they'd have to be your twin, right?

    It's coming soon! I promise :-)
  • Hey you promised a post today WHERE IS IT.

    :-)
  • Hmm $12k eh?

Personally I'd have taken the money and started up again, but that's because I've no moral compass whatsoever. I sold it to the guy down the road for ten bucks.

Anybody need a soul? 100 bucks and it's yours.
  • I have to know the scoop now.

    I'm a curious cat, yo.
  • @The Financial Philosopher:
  • Awesome - glad you held out.

And it's Tuesday! What gives?! :p
  • I'm glad you didn't shut it down, because I really like your blog! You have an original voice that deserves to be heard. Looking forward to your next post.
  • The anticipation is incredible...I hope it lasts!!

Thank God Tuesday is only 27 minutes away!!
  • I'm not sure how a life can "grow" with money...

"Wealth and rank are what people desire, but unless they are obtained in the right way they may not be possessed." ~ Confucius

"A wise man should have money in his head, but not in his heart." ~ Jonathan Swift

"Money often costs too much." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

It appears you made the right decision. I'll "see you" Tuesday...

  • You can't sell it, Clay! It is our lifeline! Want to earn money? Open a closed discussion forum/social networking called The Growing Life where people share how they changed your life using your tips & tricks. Charge $49 per 3 months and give regular posts/e-books. Why not?

I am not sure what do you do for a living right now but your talent and writing is in demand and I am sure there will be many people to pay for it (including me) that will also look for a place to exchange experience on their new way of living.

    Camon Clay!
  • Glad you decided against it for two reasons 1) 12K is not enough and 2) You ARE The Growing Life! Without you it just becomes another in the mass of personal productivity blogs out there. YOU make it unique.

    Glad you are sticking around!

$12k is hardly worth it. If someone had offered you upwards of $250k, maybe, but I'm glad you decided to take a vacation, regroup and pick it back up. Your blog rocks!
  • Dang the suspense here. Gotta wait for ya to return from your camp to hear more.
  • Anya May
Thanks for sticking around. I enjoy reading nonsense. :P I'll be droping by on Tuesday.

  • Adam
I didn't even know it was for sale - Is there some kind of mailing list I'm not on?
  • $12,000 isn't even good for 3 months anyway. (At least, where I live. Money is so fleeting a thing.)

Though, I suppose, depending on your circumstances, it might've knocked out some annoying debt and made itself worth more than the nominal value with the interest saved and the instant peace of mind gained. I suppose it all depends on how The Growing Life derives its value for you, and how that compares to the value of money.

I've often wondered what I would accept for one of my pet programs that I've poured a lot of myself into. I eagerly await Tuesday.
  • @Jonathan -

    That is AWESOME :-)

    @Clay -

I *knew* that $11,999.99 was to low an offer. Maybe I'll learn next time ...
  • I think that's a good choice from someone who on their about page says "the key is to hold on, not sell (out)."
  • Brice
Well, I'm glad you didn't shut it down (or sell it). Will look forward to Tuesday!
  • I can't wait for Tuesday. :)
  • Clay Collins
@Dave: Good question. I'll tell you everything on Tuesday after I get back from camping and have time to get my thoughts straight :-).

@Jay: What?! You made me an offer as well? Maybe it got accidentally routed to my spam folder.
  • Jay
I thought my offer was fair, but I shall counter nonetheless. How about the $12K... AND this bit of string?
  • *ahem*

    WHY?

(the shutting down part, not the $12,000 part)
